The pink city - Jaipur, Rajastan, India

It is a different side of the world you will see out there. Do you love the tales of kings, queens and far away land with majestic palaces? If so, you will love Jaipur.

Date                25 Jan 2012
Destination      Jaipur, Rajastan, India
In my list         Palaces, forts and city seeing

We had been planning this trip for a very long time, so excitement was in the air. I was particularly excited about seeing Hawa mahal after reading a lot about it.

Jaipur has lot to offer you, so if you plan to visit Jaipur it will be great to spend few days there. Since we had very less time our agenda was limited.

Either side of the road on the route to Jaipur from Delhi was picturesque with yellow flowers in mustard fields and few dry mountainous areas.

The pink city
If you have heard of Jaipur, you might have wondered, is it really a 'pink' city, well, I have wondered that many a times and yes it is. All the buildings inside the city are painted pink. Isn't that nice?

The city has a village-ish feel, calm, camels, elephants and nice people.
I fell in love with camels during my trip - what I love about them is the they way they keep their heads, raised, gives a sense of pride within.

You should try the ride on elephants, I could not since I was pressed for time.

Destination  Amber/Amer palace and fort

The Amber fort and palace was build by Rajput king Raja Man Singh I in 1562 and it takes you back ages. The palace had intrinsic art work and great landscape with garden on one side.

In front of the palace, there was this person who was playing traditional folk music which was great, we tried to get a crash course but well, did not have much luck :D

Destination Jal Mahal

Jal Mahal means water palace. This is another amazing architectural wonder in Jaipur, but unfortunately we could not go in to the palace because it was closed for renovation. This palace was the summer palace for royalties, this picturesque palace in the middle of the lake is a must see.

Stopped at Suraj Restaurant located near Brahmpuri Police station, Jaipur. Lunch was simply delicious, years from then, even now I always think of the grated paneer curry we had.

Destination City Palace and Jantar Mantar

This palace was the residence of Maharaja of Jaipur, build during the 1920s.
You can see great details of the Rajput architecture in the walls of the palace with artifacts from the past.

By the time we were out of the palace, Jantar Mantar was closed. It closes at 4.30 pm.

Destination Hawa Mahal and City streets

Hawa mahal is actually a facade kind of building which was used by the royalty women to view street activities.

The shops there had many handcrafted foot wears, dresses etc. We went to many shops, bought lots of sandals and a kurthi with glass work.

I hate good byes, but it was time.
